Task Number Tehn. New Website.

I looove the new look. Join me in giving Cari a pat on the back? So refreshing.
The first thing I love is no drop down menus. Those were a bit in the way on the old design.
But the first thing I don't love is after clicking on a New DVD title on the slider, it takes you to the item in our catalogue, and from there, if you choose to go back, the slider will now display books, while New DVDs is still selected. You must select New Books, then New DVDs again if you want it to go back to the DVDs. I'm sure this can and will be fixed in no time.

I like the new Events calendar. It allows us who are looking for that info in a timely fashion to scan for keywords. The other page took to much scrolling and clicking around.

The eResources & Services pages both have a nice, cleaned up look about them that boast professionality and ease of use for patrons.

I'm glad to see our site finally looking a little more 'with the times' with the new layout.

Task #9 - Universally Classy

I am continuously impressed with our database center. The Universal Class is awesome.
Working at half time, and being a young adventurist, I'm at a point where I realllly need help budgeting and managing my finances. Universal Class couldn't have knocked on my door at a better time. (Well, maybe before the thousands of dollars of credit card debt, but..) I have enrolled in two budgeting/finance classes and intend on finishing them both within the six month period given. I may also try to take an Excel class to refresh my memory on some of the things I learned from Ike years ago.

Thanks.

Task Number 8

This was quite the doozy. I suppose it was less about knowing Spanish and more about knowing where everything is, right?

I do feel a tad more confident about perusing through the Espanol LibGuide, so thanks.
I hope to have an opportunity one day soon to help a soul find the card application.

!PLUR!

Task 7 - Dropbox Vs Google Docs

I am really liking the idea of DropBox.
This would likely replace my heavy use of flash drives.
Might be interested in getting a group together to host an account, that way we could all share pics, music, and other files more easily. I like that it supports smart phones..
I am curious to know how easy it is to move the files you have saved on the Dropbox website to your own personal computer or device.

Google Docs is neat, and I'm down to use that, too. It would take me using both hands on, to see which I would recommend, depending on ease of use. It seems it would be really beneficial for those patrons who are in here updating resumes and such.

Boom.

Don't hassle the hoff, Cari..

Taks Siks (#6)

I missed the Biography question, partly because I didn't read the answers thoroughly (as it would have been obvious enough if I had), and partly because I've never used that database.

I checked out the Context in Biography database, pretty neat!

Now it's time for multiple choice!

........................................
A patron has just moved here from Telluride, and would like to sign herself and her 11 year old kid up for a library card. They are hoping to use the internet to check their e-mail and facebook accounts. They have no proof of current address. How can we best assist them?

a) Sign them up for a temporary card, and tell them they can check out three items at a time.

3) Sign them both up for cards, and mail them out.

ted) Offer them guest passes for the internet.

j) Sign them both up for cards, give the juvenile their card, and mail the adult to the address given to verify local residency.

Extra Credit #2 A Google A Day

What an interesting way to learn random information. And also to test your research skillz.

Brass, I found, after a short internet search, naturally disinfex itself within 8 hours.

Good to know.

I like that it times you. I wonder if I was logged into Google each time I played with this, if it would compile stats somewhere? Hm. Scale of 1-10 on the fun scale? 7.9

Downtown Gift Card. I'll buy your first round if chosen :) jk (but seriously)

Task #5: Chilton's Library

This database is as ridiculously user-friendly as everyone said it would be.
Seems like it could save quite a bit of money, too, if you wanted to get your hands dirty.

For instance, I found steps on how to do a complete overhaul on my CV-joint, a common fix with Subarus at my mileage, which would save me $200 if I was able to do myself.

I plan on recommending this to the many folks who come in looking for Chilton's repair manuals.
Thanks for the info!

Task #4 - E-readers, downloading

So I was looking at an article called 'Kindle Tops Our E-Reader Ratings'. This is from one year ago, so I know prices and speed has changed on these well-oiled machines.

Okayy, now looking at one from December 2010, and I'm gonna buy the Pandigital, because I appreciate the way it sounds, the amount of syllables and the way they run together. I'm gonna download all O'Reilly's and Beck's books and then break it!

"The tide comes in, the tide goes out, you can't explain that."
Really, Bill? Really?

So, if I buy this, the three (3) steps to download are....:

I. Install Adobe Digital dealio.
II. Make sure you're plugged in, and create your new Adobe account when prompted.
IIV. You can then search for, select, add to cart, and begin your download! Yayyyy

Task #3 - Mastering the FILE

This was a helpful 'refresher' for me. What an awesome tool to use.
Browed Rolling Stone for a while and read some pretty fun articles about some favorite 'musicians'.

Smart-phone Aids to Reduce Distraction was published in April of '11, but since technically that's about accessories to smart-phones, I'm also going to add the seconds most recent in my answer:
Hot, New Smart-phones was published in March '11.

Extra Credit - Michael Jackson: The Making of the 'King of Pop'

I'm going to go ahead and put in a second entering for the gift card, if I may.

Task #2 - Survey Says...

I've been away for far too long. I missed the last question.. about the amount of shopping bags allowed on a person. Really?? How did THAT happen??!

Sincerely,

In-Training

Task #1 (Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is..)

Super stoked that the library is offering a nice sized gift card for downtown. Triple Play, here I come!

It's really nice to be back in a familiar land. I have spent the last year spending too much money on live music and gas getting around the city.. It's been a load of fun, but I'm happy to be back at the Valley's pace; riding bikes with friends, seeing too many acquaintances to count at downtown functions, and the beauty of the mountains all around me.

Now let me hear the bass.
